Bowls trophy triumphs

Midweek, in the Ridett Trophy, Jeff Edkins inspired Sandown A to a narrow victory away at Ryde Marina A, drawing 2-2 but winning 66-59 on points. Also in the quarter-finals, Totland A beat Ventnor B 2-2 (69-54), Shanklin A won 3-1 at home to Cowes Medina A, and Plessey A won the derby against Plessey B 3-1. The semi-finals are due to be played by September 3, with the final on September 13 at Shanklin.

Men’s Division One saw Ventnor A win 8-2 (51-39) at home to Ryde Marina A, while Totland A won 8-2 (51-39) at home to Cowes Medina A.

In League Division Two, Ventnor B won 10-0 (60-35) away at Camp Hill A, Ryde Marina B won 10-0 (74-39) at home to Plessey C, Cowes Medina B won 8-2 (63-27) at home to Newport A, and Plessey B won 10-0 (64-40) at home to Sandown B.

Division Three saw Plessey D win 10-0 (67-31) at home to Newport B, while Sandown D won 8-2 (47-41) at home to Ventnor C.

In the Ladies League, Ryde Marina D have been crowned Division One champions, with Plessey A runners-up, while Cowes Medina A and Ryde Marina A are relegated.

Division Two sees Shanklin B and Ventnor A promoted, with Shanklin C and Camp Hill relegated, while Division Three sees Sandown A promoted.

Shanklin Bowls Club are also mourning the loss of former player Joan Roberts, who was also a former school governor and an active member of St Blasius’ Church. Her service was held midweek at St Blasius.
