Two Wight Tri members were in action at separate events last weekend, with Paul Edwards competing in Leeds and Chris Jackson racing in Northamptonshire.
Leeds Ironman – Paul Edwards
The Leeds Ironman event was forced to drop its swim leg after blue-green algae was detected in Waterloo Lake, turning the event into a duathlon.
Paul completed the 112-mile (180km) bike leg through the Yorkshire Dales in 6h 1m, battling rain, slippery roads and more than 8,000ft (2,400m) of climbing.
He then tackled a four-lap marathon around Roundhay Park, completing the run in 3h 39m 59s, despite rising temperatures and fatigue. He crossed the line in an overall time of 9h 46m 31s, before collecting his medal and travelling back to the Island later that evening.
Oundle Sprint Triathlon – Chris Jackson
Chris Jackson competed at the Oundle Sprint Triathlon, in Northamptonshire, which featured a 600-metre (656-yard) swim, 25km (15½ mile) bike ride, and 5km (3 mile) run.
Chris completed the ‘snake’ swim in Oundle School’s indoor pool before heading out on the rural bike course.
She maintained her pace on the run to finish in 1h 41m 49s.
Her performance placed her 24th out of 47 women and second in her age category, just 19 seconds behind the winner.
