Dear Editor,
Years ago, we were taught practical skills like sewing, knitting and mending in school. These invaluable lessons equipped us to repair and reuse, rather than discard and replace. Yet today, it seems, such teachings are no longer part of the curriculum.
Do any schools on the Island still include these essential life skills in their learning programmes? The one my grand-daughter attends does not. Surely, teaching youngsters how to mend not only fosters creativity and self-reliance but also promotes sustainability – which is so popular today. Is it time to revisit these lessons and ensure the next generation is equipped for a more resourceful future?
