Officers from Hampshire Constabulary have sealed off a section in Regent Street, Shanklin following a serious incident outside Peacock’s shop.
Shocked residents voiced disbelief at the violent assault that took place at just after 10.00 pm.
One person was treated at the scene by paramedics, and was then taken away by ambulance. His condition is unknown at present. Police Officers remain on scene at Regent Street awaiting an update on the persons condition.
A Hampshire Police Spokesman has confirmed that one person has been arrested following the assault.
The man who is understood to be from the local area is being questioned on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm by officers. Anyone who has any information about the incident should call 101, quoting reference 44180467728.
