The principal of the Isle of Wight College, Ros Parker, will step down at the end of the 2026 academic year after four years in the role.

Ros joined the college in 2022, having previously served as principal of Southend Community College. In 2021, she was recognised in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List, receiving an OBE for her contributions to adult education and community development.

During her time at the IW College, she has overseen curriculum expansion, capital improvements, and strengthened community and educational partnerships, with a continued focus on improving student outcomes.

Chairman of governors, Sara Weech, said: “While we are saddened by Ros’ decision to step down, we are deeply grateful for her exceptional leadership and steadfast commitment to our students, staff, and the wider community. Her vision and passion have left a lasting legacy, and we wish her every success in her future endeavours.”

Ros said: “It has been an absolute joy and privilege to be part of our students’ journeys and to witness their growth and achievements — made possible by the unwavering dedication of our staff and the support of our wonderful community.

“However, due to changes in my personal circumstances, I now have increasing caring responsibilities that require my attention. Regrettably, this means stepping away from a role and sector I care deeply about.”

She plans to remain on the Island and volunteer with three local charities. The board of governors will begin the recruitment process for a new principal in the autumn term.
