With the IW Festival beginning today, temporary traffic measures have been introduced around Newport to manage the increased volume of vehicles.
A one-way system is in operation on Fairlee Road, with outbound traffic diverted via Staplers Road. Normal routes are expected to resume by the afternoon of Monday, June 23.
Festival traffic from ferry ports is being directed along the following routes:
- East Cowes: via York Avenue, Whippingham Road and East Cowes Road. At peak times, traffic may loop via the Racecourse roundabout.
- Fishbourne: via Kite Hill, Wootton and Lushington Hill, before joining East Cowes Road at the Racecourse roundabout.
- Yarmouth: via Newport to Coppins Bridge, then on to Lushington Hill and East Cowes Road.
There is no access to Seaclose Park, but Newport Quay and the Riverside Centre remain accessible via Sea Street bridge.
The Cowes Floating Bridge will operate extended hours during the festival weekend. First and last crossings vary each day from Friday, June 20 to Monday, June 23 – full details available HERE.
Roadworks at Horsebridge Hill have been paused to keep traffic flowing.
Residents are advised to avoid key festival routes until after Monday, while the traffic is at its heaviest.
