Brexit Party Leader Nigel Farage has today announced that they will not be fielding candidates in Conservative held seats, following Prime Minister Boris Johnson stating that he would not extend the transition period beyond the end of 2020, and the government would strike a ‘Super Canada Plus’ trade deal.
That leaves Conservatives in 317 seats across the country including the Isle of Wight, not facing the threat of the Brexit Party splitting the pro-Brexit vote.
Reacting to the news, Peter Wiltshire, Brexit Party Candidate on the Isle of Wight said: “I’m very disappointed as we were receiving excellent feedback and support on the Island. Many people, including senior Conservatives are clearly unhappy with Bob Seely, his stance on Brexit, his focus on international affairs, his failure to answer correspondence and many other issues. However, this decision is being taken in the best interests of Brexit, rather than the issues in any individual constituency.”
He added: “I love this island and the people here. I believe they are poorly represented by Bob Seely who keeps referring to the Isle of Wight as “My island” it’s not, it’s “our island”. If he does win on December 12 he’d better pull his finger out and do something for us in the future.”
