Vectis Brass Band is a community organisation, based in Ryde, and has been entertaining audiences on the Island since 1947.
Earlier this year, the band learned of the death of one of its founding members, Michael Collis. Michael joined the band at the age of eight, and played with the band until just before he died. Michael was a stalwart of the band, always helping to encourage the younger players to learn and love music, as well as being a committed band member.
As a tribute to Michael, the band’s composer in residence, Alan Ingram, has written a new composition, entitled ‘A Song to Michael’, which features the tuba section of the band – the instrument Michael played and loved.
Musical director, Jay Taylor, said, “We are truly heartbroken to hear the news of Michael’s passing; he was such a kind and generous band member who was so dedicated to the development of brass music on the Island. Alan has composed such a beautiful piece of music and we’re looking forward to sharing it with our audiences.”
