A celebration of village life takes place at Mottistone Gardens next Saturday (March 23), as part of National Village Hall Week starting on Monday.
The community event at Mottistone is free and features a variety of talks and entertainment throughout the day, starting with its opening by the Island’s Lord-Lieutenant, Suzie Sheldon, at 11am.
There will also be children’s activities, guided garden tours, stalls and demonstrations.
Entertainment in the marquee/tearooms includes the Chillerton Players, Porchfield Drummers, Bay Wailers and Chasing Scarlett.
The event is organised by Community Action Isle of Wight with stalls and boards in the Barn from Whitwell, Arreton, Rookley, Brook, Yarmouth and other halls across the Island.
On Tuesday (March 19), Yarmouth will celebrate the occasion at the town’s Community Hall, 11am-2pm. There will be a sale of books and puzzles, tea, coffee, cake and light refreshments.
There will also be a Spring Fayre in the Church Hall, Victoria Road, Freshwater Bay, next Saturday (March 23) 10.30am-4pm with funds raised going towards the hall’s upkeep.
