Medina College is rallying behind its Head of PE Ian Rock, as he undertakes an extraordinary 100‑mile endurance challenge to raise funds for the Huntington’s Disease Association.
Huntington’s Disease is a deeply personal battle for Ian and his family. He lost his father to the condition, and both he and his brother have tested positive and are now symptomatic. Despite this, Ian continues to face life with determination and optimism, using his own experience to raise awareness and support for families affected by the disease.
At 4am on Thursday, April 30, Ian will begin “Rock’s 100”, completing 100 one‑mile laps of the school fields. He will continue through the night without sleep, finishing on Friday, May 1. Students from Medina College – along with pupils from other Island schools – will join him for parts of the route.
On Friday, the school will hold a pink and green non‑uniform day, reflecting the charity’s colours, with donations added to Ian’s fundraising total before the school community gathers to welcome him across the finish line.
This will be Ian’s third major challenge for the charity. He has previously completed a non‑stop 73‑mile walk around the Island, and an ascent challenge climbing the equivalent of 9,000 metres.
A spokesman for Medina College said Ian’s courage, commitment and generosity make him an exceptional role model for students and the wider Island community. You can support Ian’s efforts HERE.
