The clock on Seaview’s Masonic Hall has been restored and put back in place after extensive work.
There has been a clock in the same position since the building opened in 1912, but years of exposure to the weather and ageing parts had taken their toll.
Members of Spithead Masonic Lodge arranged for the clock to be restored, with the work carried out by Hawkins Clocks, of Botley, Hampshire.
The company was able to retain the original metal frame and face glass, while fitting a new face, new workings, a clock resynchroniser and renewed LED lighting.
The new system has been programmed to operate for the next 20 years.
Bob Cooper, of Spithead Masonic Lodge, said: “The clock was there when this lodge purchased the property in 1947, and has been a focal point for people passing through to check the time.
“Many attempts through the years have been made to keep the clock working, but severe weather and subsequent damage brought it to its end.
“So it was our duty to the public to raise the funds to have the clock restored to its original iconic status, using as many parts of the original as possible.
“We thank Hawkins Clocks for their vision in restoring the clock, so it will be working for many years to come.”
The restored clock was back in operation from 8am on April 23.
