Yarmouth Castle has suffered damage to its foundation, and is to undergo full repairs.
The north-facing buttress has succumbed to a battering from the sea, and over the course of the last two years has slowly got worse.
An interim fix was put in place, and now English Heritage has confirmed full repairs are to take place.
A spokesman said: “Yarmouth Castle has felt the impact of the waves against its sea-facing walls for nearly 500 years. Sadly, the cumulative effect of this took its toll on the north-facing buttress when a small section of stones fell into the sea in February.
“We quickly put in place an interim fix and are currently planning to undertake a full repair of the damage. The castle is still safe to access for visitors and is now open seven days a week.”
