Louis and Cooper are looking for a home

A local animal charity is urgently seeking a special home for two dogs, Louis and Cooper, after difficult circumstances left them unable to return to their previous owner.

Louis, a 15-year-old Shih Tzu, and Cooper, a seven-year-old American Cocker Spaniel, were first taken into emergency foster care by Friends of the Animals on Christmas Eve. Weeks later, their carers were told that the dogs could not return to their original home, marking them as the first rescues of 2025 for the organisation.

Since then, the foster carers have gone to great lengths to provide comfort and care as the dogs adjusted to their new surroundings. Both dogs required medical attention — Cooper underwent a dental procedure and treatment for an ear infection, while Louis, who suffers from arthritis, was started on monthly medication to ease his discomfort. The charity has pledged to cover the cost of all future treatments for Louis, as due to his age he will become one of their long-term foster dogs.

Louis, described as a gentle older dog who enjoys a quiet life, needs to take things at his own pace. Though his eyesight is poor, his appetite remains good, and the arthritis treatment has significantly improved his quality of life. Cooper, by contrast, is an energetic and playful spaniel who loves walks and tummy rubs. The pair are now in search of a permanent home.

Both dogs were recently groomed by Lucy Nature Paws Pet Services, a gesture praised by the rescue team as a valuable contribution to their ongoing care.

While homes for more than one dog can be difficult to find, Friends of the Animals is determined to find a home where the inseparable pair can stay together and receive the love and attention they deserve. Islanders interested in giving Louis and Cooper a forever home can call 522511, from Tuesday to Saturday, between 10am and 4pm.
