IW Council statement on Belgrave Road

By Press Release Mar 24, 2025

The Isle of Wight Council has issued a new statement this afternoon on the latest position on Belgrave Road in Ventnor.

“The Isle of Wight Council and Island Roads continue to be committed, along with our local MP’s, councillors and residents to finding solutions for the ongoing challenges impacting the road network in Ventnor.

“Preliminary surveys have been carried out at the rock fall site on Belgrave Road which have confirmed the rock to be at low risk of further collapse. However, the area below has been secured to ensure public safety.

“To progress further the Isle of Wight Council requires permission from the landowner to access the third-party land. We will then be able to assess the stability of the remaining rock face and the adjacent private structures. The council will then instruct Island Roads to carry out a detailed assessment by a geological consultant.

“Following the completed assessment the Isle of Wight Council will work with Island Roads on the safest, most suitable method of clearing the rock. This process will require specialist machinery and skilled workers to ensure the debris is removed safely.

“The council will be able to share a more specific timescale with Island residents once a plan has been agreed.”
