Last month young people from Network Ryde Youth Service hosted their first-ever HELPFEST – a community event aimed at raising awareness of free help and support available across the Island.
Part of their social action project, HELPFEST brought together charities, community groups, and support services offering vital resources at no cost. Visitors met the people behind the services and learned how to access help when it’s needed most.
Over 150 people attended, engaging with stalls, joining activities, and building connections with service providers. The group also raised £210.57 through donations and a raffle, which will be shared among participating organisations.
The young organisers led every aspect of the events, from planning and promotion to set-up and guest welcome. Their goal was to empower the community and reduce stigma around seeking help.
“I’m so proud of the young people for all the hard work, commitment and creativity they put into this event,” said Kaiya, a youth worker. “They’ve made a real difference by connecting people in the community to support they may need.”
Feedback, from attendees and stall-holders, was overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the group’s energy, initiative, and impact.
Network Ryde’s wider social action programme encourages young people to identify local needs, design meaningful projects, and bring their ideas to life-building skills, confidence, and community spirit along the way.
