St Mary’s Hospital has secured significant funding from the national Estates Safety Fund.
The £1.63 million grant, which will come from the Department for Health is designed to deal with relatively small scale but important building safety works. Such work can include fixing leaking roofs. upgrades to faulty electrical wiring. fire safety requirements and other work identified as local priorities.
Chief Officer for the IW NHS Trust Joe Smyth said: “I’m pleased that we’ve secured our fair share allocation from this national capital fund. While we’ve made significant investment in our estate in recent years, like many trusts across the country, we still face challenges with ageing infrastructure that requires attention.
“This funding will enable us to deliver a series of priority improvements at St Mary’s Hospital including upgrades to fire alarm systems, replacement of fire doors and compartments, boiler and heating system improvements and lift refurbishment.
“In addition to the investment we will continue to make in our annual capital investment programme, the trust will also introduce new technologies aimed at improving system efficiency and reducing the site’s carbon footprint. This will lower maintenance costs and provide savings that can be reinvested into frontline care. “Work is expected to be completed by 31 March 2026 and plans are for services to continue to operate as normal during the improvements.”
