Free school clothes available every Friday

Ryde Town Council has announced the return of its School Uniform Swap Shop, giving families the chance to exchange outgrown school clothes ahead of the new term.

The popular initiative is based at the former NatWest building, on Ryde High Street, and will run from today (Friday) and tomorrow, Saturday, August 9, from 10am to 2pm, and then every Friday throughout August.

Parents and carers are invited to bring along any unwanted or outgrown school uniform, and swap it for larger sizes. Items include branded uniform from all Ryde schools, as well as general essentials such as shirts, shorts, trousers and t-shirts.

Alison Pearce, Ryde Town Council’s community development officer, said: “In many ways we’re sorry to mention school in the middle of the summer holidays, but we know lots of people are already preparing for September. Even if you have nothing to swap, you’re very welcome to come along – it’s a great way to reuse uniforms and reduce waste.”

Uniform donations can be dropped off in advance at the Town Council offices on Lind Street. Visitors are also encouraged to support the Ryde Carnival soft toy appeal by bringing along any spare cuddly toys for donation.

The swap shop is supported by Ryde Timebank volunteers, who will be on hand each week to help run the sessions.
