Free holiday fun for Island families

With the school holidays in full swing, Barnardo’s is offering a packed programme of free activities and support for parents, children, and young people across the Island.

The charity runs three family hubs and centres in Newport, Ryde, and Sandown, all open throughout the summer, with drop-in sessions and events for all ages. Activities range from water-play and painting to reading corners and play dough, all designed to keep children entertained without stretching family budgets.

Sarah Riddick, family support team lead, in Ryde, said: “The summer holidays can bring extra pressure for many parents, with the need for more food, childcare, and activities. Many families tell us they feel overwhelmed, as outings can be costly.”

Children’s services manager, Claire Steen, added: “Our sessions are free, informal, and a great way for families to spend time together and meet others. We’re also here to offer advice, information, and tailored support throughout the holidays.”

In addition to play sessions, the hubs host Health Visitor drop-ins, and breast-feeding ‘Stay and Play’ groups, where parents can chat with trained peer supporters in a relaxed setting.
