The owners of the Castle Inn are giving up the Newport pub and holding a ‘drink the pub dry’ event on their final night on Saturday, September 19.
Simon and Louise Cant have had the pub for several years having also owned the Wheatsheaf in the town at one stage.
Simon said: “After a lot of thinking, talking, tears and probably a few ‘are we actually doing the right thing?’ moments, me and Louise have made the decision that on September 19, our time at The Castle will come to an end.
“The Castle has never just been a pub to us. It’s been a massive part of our lives. It’s been our home away from home, our headache, our stress, our laughter, our arguments, our proudest moments and, at times, the place that’s tested us more than we ever thought possible.
“We’ve met some absolutely incredible people along the way. Some started off as customers and ended up becoming proper friends. We’ve laughed until we’ve cried, probably cried until we’ve laughed, celebrated birthdays, weddings, Christmases, New Years, good times, bad times and everything in between.
“But sometimes in life you have to realise what really matters. For me, that’s Louise, our family and our health.”
Their last night includes live music from Bittersweet, with pints for £3, a spirit and mixer for £3, doubles with a mixer for £4 and shots for £1. The pub will then close for a few days and reopen on Friday, September 25.
