Safer bus stops for Hale Common

Further work to make bus stops between Arreton and Lake safer and more accessible will begin later this month.

Island Roads, working on behalf of the Isle of Wight Council, will upgrade bus stops on both sides of the A3056, outside Leslie’s Suzuki at Hale Common.

The three-week scheme is due to begin on September 21, and will include new hard standings and a footpath at the stops on both sides of the road.

A tactile crossing will also be installed to help pedestrians cross safely between the two improved stops.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place while the work is carried out.

The improvements are the latest to be delivered using Department for Transport funding secured by the Isle of Wight Council through the A3056 Safer Roads Fund.

The first phase of the scheme is already seeing bus stops in Arreton upgraded.

An Island Roads spokesman said: “We would like to thank residents and road users for their patience while these important upgrades are being delivered.

“Unlike the works at Arreton, the width of the road at Hale Common means we can carry out the improvements under temporary traffic lights rather than a full closure.

“We hope this will keep disruption to a minimum for the travelling public.”
