More than four million viewers tune into ‘The Great British Sewing Bee’ on BBC1 – including many members of Freshwater Bay WI – so they were delighted to welcome Georgie Carter to talk about her time on the show.
The Island-based contestant kept the meeting entertained with a behind-the-scenes glimpse of what life was like in the series, in 2024.
She told a packed meeting, of 47 members and six visitors, of the camaraderie between contestants as the Leeds-based show was filmed, and what it was like being judged by Esme Young and Patrick Grant.
Georgie, who lasted until week six, brought a rack of her designs, including some which came under the TV judges’ critical eyes, for members to browse. She had only been sewing for two years before she was selected as a candidate, and said she wanted to be on the show to challenge herself.
She has since set up Keep Collective, which creates items from vintage textiles and items such as duvet covers, which would be destined for landfill.
