Early‑bird entries for iconic Round the Island race open

The countdown to this year’s Round the Island race officially begins today (Friday), as entries open for the iconic 50‑nautical‑mile challenge around the Isle of Wight.

Race director, Dave Atkinson, said excitement was already building. “We’ve been busy behind the scenes at the Island Sailing Club getting everything ready for launch, and now it’s time to build the momentum ahead of the race in July,” he said.

“Whether you’re a seasoned competitor, or keen to take part for the first time, the race is open to all, so please join us and be part of a really special occasion.”

Hundreds of boats are expected to take part in the annual spectacle, which starts from the Royal Yacht Squadron line, at Cowes, before heading west to The Needles. The fleet then rounds the Island, passing St Catherine’s Point and Bembridge Ledge buoy, before returning through the Solent to finish back in Cowes.

Early entry prices start from £140, with standard fees returning on Friday, February 14.

A dedicated race village, on Cowes Parade, will run throughout the race weekend, offering live music and entertainment from Friday, July 10.
