Summerfields Primary School, in Newport, marked its 50th anniversary on Friday with a community celebration, 50 Fest.
Held on the school grounds, the golden-themed festival brought together pupils, families, staff, and special guests for an afternoon of nostalgia and fun. The site was decorated with colourful flags from The New Carnival Company, and guests wore special golden wristbands to mark the occasion.
Live performances from each class celebrated five decades of music and culture, from disco classics and robot dancing to a high-energy ‘Wham!’ tribute. The event also featured pony rides, traditional fairground games like Splat the Rat and the Coconut Shy, and side-stalls run by Year 6 pupils.
Families explored displays of old photographs and newspaper clippings, spanning five decades of school life, and enjoyed a themed photo booth to create new memories on the day. Guests included local councillor, Matt Price, and residents from Vecta House.
Headteacher, Melanie Gartell, said: “It was wonderful to see the whole community come together to celebrate this milestone. The mix of nostalgia, entertainment and togetherness made ‘50 Fest’ a truly special occasion. I believe the children will always remember it.”
Former pupils are invited to share memories for the school’s anniversary memory book via the school website.
