On the field, Sam Hatton scored a hat-trick for Osborne Coburg, West Wight retained the lead in Combination One, Cowes won in Wessex, and Shanklin Ladies claimed a famous win in a cup penalty shoot-out.
IW Divisions One and Two
Division One leaders, Ventnor, stumbled, losing 3-1 away at Cowes Res, with Martin Barrow and scorer, Emerson Tattersall, sent off in the 81st minute. Cowes’ goals came from Charlie Haward, Sonny Myram and Jordan Whittle.
Bembridge won a well-contested match 1-0 away at Shanklin, with a second-half own-goal securing the points. Osborne Coburg won 4-3 at home to Brading, with goals from Adam Cantelo, Connor Coburn, Carl Phillipson and Harry Green.
Northwood won 5-4 away at Binstead, with goals from Aarun Ince, James Cheek, Barney Snaith and Leo Jones (2).
In Division Two, with Pan kicked out of the division following disciplinary action from the FA, Newport Res won their first game of the season 3-1 at home to Seaview. Second-placed East Cowes Sports won 2-0 away at Ryde Saints, after a goal-less first half, with an own-goal and a Josh Richardson strike.
Goals from Tom Lavell, Jay Larbalestier and Ben Gardener saw Oakfield win 3-2 at home to 3rd-placed Sandown & Lake, with George Johnson and Kai Westmore on target for the visitors.
Cup matches
In the Challenge Cup, Whitecroft & Barton won 3-1 away at West Wight with goals from Josh Appell, Coner Lyon and Alex Wright, with Aidan Sainsbury yellow-carded. Jude Millar scored the second-half consolation goal for the home side. Vectis won their Memorial Cup tie, at Niton, 5-0, with strikes from Jamie Barratt (2), Louis Newsham (2) and Aaron Shepherd.
Tuesday night’s Gold Cup semi-final, at Westwood Park, saw East Cowes Vics overcome Newport 4-1. Aedan Coode opened the scoring in the 19th minute, with Scott Jones adding a second with 10 minutes of the half left. Zak Sullivan scored from the spot in injury time to go into the break leading 3-0, with both sides making use of their subs benches. Elliot Wheeler finished off a Zak Sullivan free kick for 4-0, with 15 minutes left, but Newport didn’t give up and were rewarded with a Macca Watterson goal, but it is Vics that will be playing in the final.
Combination One and Two
Combination One leaders, West Wight Res, won 5-0 away at Ventnor Res, with 2 goals apiece from Jordan Flynn and Taylor Simmonds, and another from Connal Groom. Simon Merrett was yellow-carded in the second half.
High Park Res won 3-1 at Sandown & Lake Res, with the late consolation goal scored by yellow-carded Dylan Andrews.
Northwood Res won 3-0 at home to Bembridge Res, and W&B were awarded a home win over Brading Res.
Leaders, Osborne Coburg A, in Combination Two won 6-0 away at Newchurch Res, with a hat-trick for Sam Hatton, and Jason Pengelly also on target. High Park A won 2-1 at home to West Wight A, with Sam Oatley getting the consolation goal.
Second-placed Niton Res won 6-3 away at Vectis Res, with 2 goals each from Grant Richardson and Edward Brotherton, and 1 apiece from James Evans and Tony Potts. Consolation goals came from Cameron Kayode, Peter Walker and Jimmy Waterman. Bembridge A won 5-2 at home to Sandown & Lake A, who scored through Phil Shuro and Tom Driscoll.
Wessex
In the Premier Division, Cowes won 3-0 at Portland, after a goal-less first half. Jordan Browne gave the yachtsmen the lead on the hour mark, with Charlie Marsek adding a second with 10 minutes left. Scott McFarlane secured the points from the penalty spot after Jared-Tout Walters was fouled.
Vics lost 4-2 at home in Division One to New Milton, with goals from Zak Sullivan and Elliot Wheeler.
Newport lost 3-1 away at Clanfield, with Joe Butcher getting the consolation goal.
Ladies
In the Women’s Trophy, Shanklin won 4-3 away at Millbrook, after Thea Broadhead’s goal ensured penalties. Goals from skipper/keeper, Kirren Shaw, Tilly Yardley, Grace McDonald and Peggy Stagg saw the Island side reach the next round.
Wight Eagles lost 4-1 at home to Farnborough, with Sophie Lewis responsible for the Islanders’ early lead.
