The Great Wight Bite returns to Northwood House, in Cowes, next weekend (September 7 and 8), promising an unforgettable event for food lovers.
Last year’s inaugural event attracted over 5,000 foodies, who sampled culinary delights from both the Island and the mainland south coast. This year, you can expect even more, with dishes including surf-‘n’-turf, scallops, lobster, and a variety of street food from around the world.
One of the festival’s highlights is the return of TV foodie and writer, Chris Bavin, who will be hosting the Chef’s Stage, sponsored by Spence Willard. Joining him are renowned chefs and food and drink experts like Valentine Warner, Gurnard local Helena Nicklin, Matt Egan from House Cowes, and Jacob Gough from The Royal Hotel. Each lunch time, celebrity chefs will take on a ‘Mystery Foodbank Box’ challenge, to raise awareness and support for the Isle of Wight Foodbank.
Event director, Richard Nowell, expressed his excitement about this year’s event. He said: “Following the success of the first Great Wight Bite, we are thrilled to return to Northwood House. We’ve lined up an amazing roster of food and drink celebrities and experts, but the real stars are the Island chefs and producers who continue to put the Isle of Wight on the UK foodie map. We’re also proud to support the IW Foodbank, and encourage attendees to bring donations.”
In addition to the many culinary offerings, the festival will feature live music, with the Ultimate Elton tribute band headlining on Saturday night. For budding chefs, the Little Chef’s Den offers cooking classes for children, while adults can enjoy a Sushi & Sake masterclass, or a Mermaid Gin and canape session.
