Vectis Historic Vehicle Club’s car show in support of Mountbatten

A classic car show supporting two Island charities returns to Northwood Showground, on Sunday, July 6.

The event, run by Vectis Historic Vehicle Club, will raise funds for Mountbatten IW and Ability Dogs for Young People. It runs from 10am to 4pm, with entry £5 for those aged 17 and over, and free for under-16s.

Visitors can enjoy a bouncy castle, live music from noon, and a Viking re-enactment, courtesy of Island-based group, Wolfguard. The Vectis Corps of Drums will perform at 11am, and a raffle will offer prizes including a hotel stay in Freshwater and attraction passes.

Vehicles from the 1920s to the present day will be on display, with entries judged by Cllr Karl Love. The Isle of Wight High Sheriff, Jacqueline Gazzard, will attend at midday.

Founded in 1973, the club now has more than 270 members. Its committee meets regularly at the John Cheverton Centre at Mountbatten Isle of Wight. Over the years, the club has raised tens of thousands of pounds for local charities, including £50,000 for Mountbatten.

Linda De Bues from the club said: “This year we wanted to expand the show and make it more family-inclusive. The children of today are tomorrow’s custodians of these beautiful cars.

“We have supported Mountbatten for two decades, because we recognise the value of its end-of-life care. We’ve also supported Ability Dogs for 12 years — the first dog we funded was a poodle named Jack, in honour of our former president.”
