More than 85 people attended the launch of Isle of Wight author and entrepreneur Charlie Panayi’s first book, ‘Excuses Will Kill You’, at Quay Arts on Friday evening. The event raised £1,255 for Mountbatten Hospice, after Charlie chose to donate all proceeds from books sold on the night.
The book looks at the excuses people often use to avoid pursuing their goals, drawing on Charlie’s own experiences of growing up with social anxiety and other challenges. He says the message is simple: fear should not be the reason for standing still.
Speaking after the event, Charlie said he hoped sharing his story might help others. “I don’t claim to be a writer. I just felt that some of the experiences I’ve had were worth sharing if they could help someone else,” he said. “This book has never been about making money. Growing up with social anxiety meant I spent years making excuses for why I couldn’t do things. Looking back, I realise it wasn’t ability holding me back. If one person reads the book and finds the courage to take a first step they’ve been putting off, then writing it will have been worthwhile.”
Guests heard Charlie speak about the personal stories behind the book before meeting him for a signing afterwards.
The evening was supported by several local businesses, including Red Squirrel Property Shop and Biscoes Solicitors helping bring the event together, and boost fund-raising for Mountbatten Hospice.
‘Excuses Will Kill You’ is available now on Amazon in Kindle, paper-back, and hard-back formats.
