Tributes to owner of Shettie Land

Liz and Chantelle

A woman who adopted and cared for Shetland ponies, Liz Malcolmson, has died aged 59 after suffering a bleed to the brain.

Liz, from Calbourne, was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital on Christmas Eve for emergency surgery, but died on Saturday.

She adopted and cared for miniature Shetland ponies with her daughter, Chantelle.

Liz and Chantelle, who own Shettie Land, on Forest Road, regularly took their ponies into care homes to visit residents and exhibited them across the Island at shows.

A GoFundMe plea, available via iw.observer/liz-malcolmson, has been set up to raise money for Liz’s family, and to support the ponies following her death.

Speaking about the bond between Liz and Chentelle, their friend, Zoe Moul, said: “As you know they have a massive love for Shetlands and, over the many years of this love, many of these have been taken on out of pure kindness and the love in Liz’s massive heart.” She added; “I can’t thank you all enough for all the love, donations already received, and the support we received so far has been overwhelming.”

More than £2,700 has been raised, and donations, of hay, feed, and straw, are welcome to ensure Liz’s ponies are cared for. Donations can be dropped off at Solent Grange nursing home, Wootton Bridge, one of the many homes Liz and Chantelle visited, and they will be delivered to the farm.
