This week brings a hockey Hat-trick

Midfield battle for Islanders at home to Swanage & Fareham

Island sides enjoyed three wins and a draw, as they move up their respective divisions.

Isle of Wight Women’s 1st XI, with Division Two South opposition, Swanage and Fareham stood together to mark Remembrance weekend. This was followed by a competitive battle with a strong midfield display, from Mia Lawrence and player-of-the-match, Polly Rider, for the Islanders and, led to Sarah Shaw opening the scoring for the Island side, from a penalty. Evie Fairhurst added 2 field goals to secure a 3-0 win and move the Islanders to 3rd place in the table.

The ladies’ 2nd XI deservedly drew 1-1 away at Alton, with a first-half field goal from Megan Bridger and a player-of-the-match performance from Jess Glover.

IW Men’s 1st XI won 2-1 away at Fareham in Division Two south, with both goals in the first half from player-of-the-match, Aaron O’Hanlon Hoare, penalties.

The 2nd XI won 5-1 at home to Basingstoke in Solent Two, with goals including Tom Young’s second-half field goal, with Steven Woodford, skipper, Carl Joyce, Sam Challis and Barry Lloyd also on target. Youngsters showing flair and skill to create opportunities included player-of-the-match, Oscar Purser, and Cian Smallwood-Butler.

On Sunday the U-16 Boys travelled to HMS Temeraire for their knockout cup match against Havant, battling hard and dominating midfield, but they were caught out by two well-worked counter attack moves by Havant, who won 3-0. Player-of-the-match was Kit McChesney.
