STAR LETTER: Aren’t we lucky to have so many brilliant people?

Dear Editor,
I would like to thank Carole Dennett for her excellent piece on Red Funnel Ferries and their CEO, Fran Collins (IW Observer, May 10).

Of course, Ms Collins is not the only person hereabouts who has multiple roles in numerous organisations. Indeed, life on the IW seems dominated by people who are clearly so talented that they must sit on this committee, that steering group, this board of trustees – positions that would clearly be beyond the intellect of ordinary folk.

The paradox (we should call it the Island Paradox) is that although we have these brilliant people in our midst, by general agreement, nothing in these parts seems to work very well.
