Island charity Sight for Wight will be hosting its fourth short story writing competition award ceremony at the Riverside Centre in Newport from 6.30pm on Monday (December 9).
The free-entry annual fundraising event will include entertainment, a pay bar, and the opportunity to hear extracts from the winning stories. This year they have been recorded by Edana Minghella, jazz singer; Melvyn Hayes, actor; Kate Weston, radio presenter and Michael Maloney, a film, television and voice over actor.
For 2019 the theme for the story entries is ‘The Sound of Christmas’. Medina Community Choir and Hannah Pereira will be singing a variety of festive songs and renowned Island magician, Huxley, will be back performing his very special brand of magic.
Chris Cane, Sight for Wight’s Marketing, Communications & Fundraising Manager, said: “This is a great opportunity for budding Island writers to become published authors; we’ll be presenting some amazing prizes to 25 talented people. We are excited to have four celebrity readers this year, who have generously given their time to record the winning stories plus we’ve added more entertainment for the evening.
“We are also delighted, and honoured, to be welcoming Melvyn Hayes to present some of the awards. All are welcome to our evening of entertainment, one of the Charity’s major fundraising events of the year. There will be a raffle, pegboard tombola with a chance to win some great prizes. It’s fun; it’s festive; it’s free!
“The award ceremony starts at 7:00pm with doors open from 6:30pm. The evening promises to be filled with magic and we look forward to welcoming a full house of friends, family, supporters and budding authors!”
