Councillors gathered to show their anger at failures to control sewage outfall into the Island’s waterways and the sea, ahead of a debate initiated by Cllr Sarah Redrup at Wednesday’s Council meeting.

The motion discussed, which committed the IW Council to work with stakeholders to reduce sewage releases to zero by 2030, was passed with 22 votes with three abstentions.

Chani Courtney, from Surfers Against Sewage, said: “We are the custodians of our waters and need to demand action to ensure our marine ecosystems and our health are not detrimentally affected by sewage pollution.”
