Sandown hotel is sold after 45 years of family ownership

The Trouville Hotel, a historic fixture on Sandown’s seafront, has been sold after 45 years under the ownership of the Moorman family.

Originally converted from a terrace of 1832 seafront houses, the hotel has become a landmark on the Isle of Wight. Known for its dancing holidays, the Trouville boasts 88 en-suite bedrooms, a bar, a restaurant with panoramic sea views, and what is reputedly the Island’s largest ballroom.

Paul Moorman, whose family has run the hotel since 1978, said, “The family bought the hotel 45 years ago and have enjoyed working in this beautiful seaside location. The business has brought us significant repeat patronage throughout our tenure. We have decided to retire and to hand over the successful business to a new owner to take to the next level.”

The hotel was purchased in a joint venture between Compass Hospitality and Seacare Hospitality. Manpreet Kaur, of Compass Hospitality, expressed excitement over the acquisition, saying it marked a significant step in expanding their UK portfolio.

The sale was handled by estate agents, Christie & Co. Regional director, Ed Bellfield, noted, “The sale of the Trouville Hotel represents an exceptional opportunity for the new owners to continue the hotel’s success.” He also praised the Moorman family’s commitment to the hotel’s development, and wished them well on their retirement.
