A missing dog who spent 11 days on the run was finally found safe on Tuesday evening, bringing an emotional end to what Drone SAR For Lost Dogs IOW describe as one of their most challenging recent searches.
The “little lady”, who had been sighted across a wide area, was eventually located in a garden and successfully secured, much to the relief of volunteers and the many Islanders who had been following her story on social media. The team said they were “delighted” to confirm her safe recovery after an intensive operation involving multiple search teams, specialist support and members of the public.
A spokesman for Drone SAR For Lost Dogs IOW thanked everyone who played a part in the rescue, including Edward Burden for his expertise, Friends of the Animals, and the TrackaDog Team for their close collaboration throughout the search.
Fairways Holiday Park and Sandown and Shanklin Golf Course also provided valuable support as did Wight Drone and ‘Olly’ who allowed the use of his yard.
The group said the operation had been “a true team effort”, with community sightings proving vital in tracking the dog’s movements. After her ordeal, she is now recuperating and appears “relatively unscathed”.
The charity also issued a gentle reminder to the public: while well‑meaning, attempts to approach or call a nervous lost dog can unintentionally push them further away. The most effective way to help is to report sightings calmly and promptly so trained teams can respond.
