RSPCA IW releases dog cruelty numbers

They may be man’s best friend – but there were 108 reports made to RSPCA Isle of Wight about cruelty towards dogs last year.

The heartbreaking figure includes 18 reports made about intentional harm, neglect and abandonment. Intentional harm includes attempted killing, poisoning, beating, improper killing, mutilation and suspicious circumstances.

The figure has been released as part of the national charity’s Cancel Out Cruelty campaign, in a bid to raise funds to help its frontline rescue teams continue to save animals from cruelty and abuse.

However, many people are unaware that the Isle of Wight branch is a local charity that has to raise all funds from its activities on the Island. Their busy animal centre is at Bohemia Corner between Godshill and Rookley at the junction of Merstone Lane.

You can help the charity in various ways. Of course, you can donate money: all donations are welcome, however small or large, and the charity will use it to provide the most critical animal need, including veterinary care, medical treatment or enrichment programmes for an animal which needs rehabilitation. You can also donate goods that the charity can sell through their charity shops or use to support the animals in their care, help with fund-raising, leave a legacy or adopt or foster an animal. Just get in touch with them on 840287 or email them at reception@rspca-isleofwight.org.uk to find out more. To make a donation go to iow.life/rspca.
