The inaugural Pink Ladies Tractor Run, raising money for the Applegate Breast Cancer Unit and Apple Blossoms Support Group, took place on Monday.
A total of 17 tractors, driven by women, took part in the event which started at The Old Smithy, Godshill, took a 10-mile route around the Arreton Valley, and stopped at Goddards Brewery before retuning to Godshill.
The event was organised by Colin Bailey, of the Vectis Vintage Engine & Tractor Club, who said: “Our usual ride-outs are in aid of the Prostate Cancer Support Group, but we wanted to put the girls in the spotlight and do something for them.
“The Old Smithy put out pink ribbons in their car park, and the ladies drove a mix of various models of tractors. We had great support from the public along the way and at Goddards Brewery, where we had The Witches Promise playing. They did a couple of Wurzel songs which were quite appropriate. The event raised £681.87 which was amazing. Anyone who would like to contact the Apple Blossom Support Group can phone Dawn, 07792 215150.”
This Sunday, the Club’s men will be holding their own charity tractor run, starting form the Eight Bells, Carisbrooke, at 10.30am.
They will set off down the Bowcombe Road, and do an off-road drive around the Chillerton Mast before continuing along to Shorwell, Brightstone, Mottistone, Military Road, and Freshwater before stopping at Alum Bay at 1pm. The tractors will depart at 2pm back through Freshwater, the Causeway, Yarmouth, Thorley, and finish at Calbourne Mill.
