Outdoor gym a hit with young users

An outside gym has been installed at Bouldnor Field by Shalfleet Parish Council.

The Sunshine Gym, an Activ8 Multi-Gym from Broxap, can be used by up to eight people at any one time.
It features a double health walker and two slalom skiers for swinging movement, coupled with a double waist twister plus a Tai Chi element for co-ordination and arm pedal bike set-up for wheelchair user.

And, as Councillor Steve Cowley found out when he went to take off the tape after it had been installed, there were two young recruits already waiting to use it.
Steve explained: “The gym had been installed but was taped off because the concrete had to set. I popped along with my wife Jill to take off the tape and two local girls were nearby and asked if they could use the equipment. It was just lovely to see that it made an immediate impact and it’s there now for everyone to enjoy in these difficult times.”
Sally Woods, Shalfleet Parish Council Clerk, added: “We thought it would be a good idea to have an outdoor gym and discussed it with Totland Parish Council, who said that their outdoor gym equipment is well used.

“It was installed by the makers, Broxap, and they also fitted safety matting around the equipment.
“We have placed it near to the existing play equipment, with an idea that parents could use the gym whilst keeping an eye on their youngsters on the play equipment. The Parish Council has also installed a new seat in the children’s play area and a new litter bin to help cope with littering and dog fouling near the other entrance gate to the field.”
