London Mini Marathon medals for Newchurch

By Chris Cornford Dec 1, 2020

The cancellation of the London Marathon led to Newchurch Primary School taking part in the very first virtual London Mini Marathon.

After PE teacher Adam Tuck and a number of parents were unable to take part in the main event, all of the classes were set the challenge of completing 2.6 miles over the course of a week. As well as keeping the youngsters fit and healthy, the school used the event as a fundraiser, as they have missed out on all their usual activites such as the sponsored walk and summer fayre.

Some older children ran the distance during cross country club, whilst others ticked off the miles on a cross-curricular walk. The youngest members of the school tallied up the miles running laps of the school field. All classes from Reception right through to year six completed their 2.6 mile challenge.

The children were very excited to receive their keepsake London Mini Marathon medals to mark their achievements and posed with them proudly.
