New thermal drone donated to help find missing Isle of Wight dogs

Friends of the Animals has donated a new drone to Drone SAR For Lost Dogs IOW, to help the volunteer team find missing dogs and other animals across the Island.

The DJI M4T drone, which has thermal imaging technology, will allow searchers to cover large areas more quickly, including farmland, woodland, cliffs, and remote countryside.

The drone has been named Scampy, in memory of the Friends of the Animals mascot, who has died. Drone SAR For Lost Dogs IOW names its drones after dogs which did not make it home to remind them of the importance of the work they are doing.

A spokesman for Drone SAR For Lost Dogs IOW said: “We are incredibly grateful to Friends of the Animals for this amazing donation. This drone will make a real difference to our searches and ultimately help us bring more dogs home safely.

“As a volunteer team, all of our equipment is either personally funded or made possible through donations, so support like this is absolutely invaluable to us.”

A representative from Friends of the Animals said: “We are proud to support the incredible work carried out by Drone SAR For Lost Dogs IOW.

“Their commitment to helping reunite lost dogs and other animals with their families is truly inspiring, and we’re delighted to contribute towards that mission.”

Drone SAR For Lost Dogs IOW is also looking for more volunteers, including qualified drone pilots, ground searchers, and dog handlers with trained search dogs.
