The Medina Marching Band was in its glory, as it took part in the world-famous ‘New Year’s Day London Parade’, to make a spectacular start to its 50th anniversary celebrations.
The band joined performers from across the UK and around the globe as it paraded through the streets of central London, watched by hundreds of thousands of spectators and millions more via international TV broadcasts.
As the band started to perform, the compere said: “This is the best marching band from England and it’s from the Isle of Wight.”
After the band received enthusiastic applause from the spectators along the route, leader, Kevin Downer, said: “To begin our 50th anniversary year by representing the Isle of Wight at the London New Year’s Day Parade is a tremendous honour.
“The commitment of our members, and the incredible support from the families, volunteers, and the wider community, made this opportunity possible.
“We would also like to thank everyone involved for making this memorable start to the year possible.”
There were around 140 entries of bands and acts with one band from Illinois, USA, having 400 members!
