Nearly 30 schools across the Island are taking part in a fund-raiser to support 16-year-old Arlo Lambie, who is fighting an aggressive grade 4 brain tumour. A “Wear What Makes You Happy” mufti day, with the theme chosen by Arlo himself, will take place on February 7, encouraging students to dress in outfits that bring them joy while raising money for his treatment.
Arlo’s friend, 15-year-old Taylor Willows, was inspired to organise the initiative. “I thought it would be amazing for all schools to stand with Arlo and show that, even though we are young, we can help too.
“Arlo is the nicest guy; he deserves our help,” he said, adding that he hoped the event would make Arlo smile.
Head of Ryde Academy, Will Doyle, praised the Island’s schools for coming together. “The Island is a wonderful community. In times of great challenge, we strive to foster a sense of community in our students,” he explained.
Funds raised will go directly to Arlo’s family to cover essential medical expenses, as the treatment he requires is not fully available on the NHS. Some will also be used to give Arlo experiences to help him cope with the challenges he is facing. With over £67,000 raised so far towards the £100,000 target, the Lambie family has expressed gratitude for the community’s compassion and support.
Schools that haven’t yet joined are invited to participate by emailing arlojourney@gmail.com. Donations can also be made via iw.observer/ donate-arlo-journey.
