Help IW charities to win £1,000 donation

The Movement for Good Awards is offering Isle of Wight charities the chance to be part of a scheme to win £1,000 donations as part of its £1 million annual giveaway to good causes. Islanders are being encouraged to nominate their favourite local charities, and the more nominations a charity receives, the higher its chances of being selected in the random draws.

This year marks the seventh anniversary of the initiative, which has already donated over £6 million to charities across the UK and Ireland since its launch in 2019. Special draws will also provide opportunities for larger grants of £5,000 for sector-specific charities. Those who wish to nominate charities for these special draws can sign up for alerts to remind them as they open. The winners of the draws will be announced throughout the year.

Mark Hews, of Benefact Group, who lead the initiative, emphasised the importance of community support. He said: “For many charities, £1,000 can make a real difference. Charitable giving is core to who we are – we are owned by a charity to ensure all our available profits go to good causes.”

Last year, over 2,300 Isle of Wight residents participated. Nominations are open now via iw.observer/charity-nomination.
