Celebrating 20 years of the national, and international, success of Parkruns, with Medina joining in 2011, the 5km run was enjoyed (and endured) by 266 runners supported by 41 volunteers. Milestones were achieved by Elliot Tyler and Karen Mayo (50) and Keith Ruth (100), visitor, Ben Flippance (200), and regular parkrunner, Martin Goodall (350).
There were 25 personal bests on the day, including leader, Henry Dadswell, who was followed home by George Eastwood and Peter Holland. Debutante, Jess Potter, one of eight first-timers, led for the ladies, followed by junior, Bella Smith, and then Liz Steward.
Visiting runners included international endurance runner, Susie Chan, author of “Trails and Tribulations: The Running Adventures of Susie Chan”, and BBC news presenter, Sophie Raworth, who interviewed her friend, Susie, at the Island’s Literary Festival.
To mark the success of Parkrun, Gill Shaw was interviewed by Alice Hopkins, on BBC Radio Solent, about how Parkrun got her into running at the age of 60, in 2015. There was also an announcement that there will be Parkruns on Christmas Day and New Year Day.
