Island Free School is most popular choice

By Press Release Mar 10, 2023

The percentage of Island pupils offered a place at their first choice of school last week showed massive variations between schools.

As previously reported, overall 80 per cent of Island youngsters were allocated a place by the Isle of Wight Council at the school they really wanted to attend. But while every pupil who put Christ the King College, Medina College and the Bay CE School as their first choice got a place because there were far more places available than there were applicants, more than half of those (54 per cent) who had set their sights on going to the Island Free School were disappointed.

The Island Free School was by far the most oversubscribed school on the Island at 210 per cent, with 263 pupils choosing it as a first preference, chasing 125 places.

The other schools were Carisbrooke College (143 per cent, 172 applicants for 120 places), Ryde Academy (106 per cent, 285 applicants for 270 places), Cowes Enterprise College (98 per cent, 236 applicants for 240 places), The Bay CE School (65 per cent, 137 applicants for 210 places), Medina College (53 per cent, 95 applicants for 180 places) and Christ the King College (47 per cent, 99 applicants for 210 places).

The Island Free School in Ventnor has got a Good Ofsted rating with the personal development, behaviour and welfare of pupils judged outstanding.
