Help Regain helps Luke and others with tetraplegia

The Regain Charity Gala Dinner, hosted by Lord Ivar Mountbatten and Classic FM’s Alexander Armstrong, with the Duchess of Edinburgh attending, is set to make a significant impact on the lives of those living with tetraplegia, including Island resident Luke Orton.

Taking place on Wednesday at The Peninsula in London, the fundraising event aims to raise £100,000 to support ongoing projects for people affected by the condition.

Luke’s story is a poignant highlight of this year’s gala. Following a catastrophic neck fracture and spinal cord injury during the Isle of Wight Rugby Sevens tournament last year, Luke was left paralysed from the chest down. Funds raised at the gala, including a dedicated £20,000, will be used to adapt Luke’s family home, enabling him to return from hospital and return home to his loved ones.

Beyond the powerful narrative of Luke’s journey of recovery, those attending will enjoy a three-course meal and be entertained by Alexander Armstrong. The event will also feature an exclusive auction, with proceeds supporting Regain.

David Walker, managing director of A2K Leisure, the company that owns the Albion Hotel on the Island, is looking forward to the glittering event, which has the dual purpose of providing a memorable evening and giving tangible support to Luke and others.

Regain offers ways to contribute for those not attending the dinner, including an on-line prize draw at £10 per ticket and a silent auction. More details can be found at iw.observer/support-regain.
