The Island’s Royal British Legion (RBL) launched its 2024 Poppy Appeal in St Thomas’s Square, Newport, on Saturday.

The assembled crowd watched as the RBL standard bearers marched into the square and were formed up by Parade Marshall, Simon Tutton.

They stood to attention while Rev Roger Whatley, from Newport, who is the Royal British Legion chaplain as well as the Island’s Fire & Rescue Service chaplain, led the prayers.

RBL IW County president, Cllr Ian Ward, welcomed the public before handing over to Deputy Lord-Lieutenant, Colonel Carron Snagge, who gave a speech before handing out poppies. The Parade Marshall then asked permission to end the ceremony.
