Local charity, Friends of the Animals, are urgently seeking new foster carers for dogs and small mammals that come into their care.
Due to a number of their foster carers falling in love with their temporary charges and adopting them permanently, the number of volunteers they have available to foster animals, particularly dogs, has fallen.
A spokeswoman for the charity said: “We are delighted that some dogs that were being fostered have found loving homes, but it does leave us with a problem.
“We rely on volunteers to foster our dogs until they find permanent homes as we believe that being cared for in a home environment is better for animals who are having to deal with life changes than going into kennels. We rely on our foster parents to give animals care and love while we work to find them permanent homes.
“For dogs we need homes where there are no children under 5, but that is not a problem for our small furries such as rabbits and guinea pigs.”
The charity provides all that is needed for the animals in foster care, including food and covering any veterinary bills.
If you can help an animal until it finds its forever home, then please call 522511 on Tuesday to Saturday.
