Public meeting to launch the Bay Area Place Plan

Sandown beach

The town and parish councils of Sandown, Shanklin and Lake, in partnership with the IW Council, will formally launch the Bay Area Place Plan at a public meeting next Monday (January 8).

The plan was commissioned by the three Bay area town and parish councils and the IW Council. It is expected that the plan will successfully co-ordinate different projects and initiatives and help both the public and private sectors access grants and other sources of funding and will help guide investment and regeneration initiatives across the Bay area in the years ahead.

The plan sets out a strategic direction for the Bay area, including the principles and values that different projects should respond to based on consultation and engagement with the local community, including local businesses.

In July last year a three-day event “Think Space” helped generate new concepts and test out ideas for change. Many of these ideas have found their way into the final report.

A key recommendation is to harness the creativity and enthusiasm of local people to deliver a series of visible and inexpensive quick-win projects that will shift perceptions of the area.

The event will be at 7pm on Monday at the Broadway Centre in Sandown.
