The recent National Bowls Finals, in Nottingham, saw outstanding representation from the Island.
Darren Griffith reached the quarter-finals in two bowls singles competitions, and, along with Travis Mellor, reached the last 16 of the Men’s Pairs.
Anne Bernard, Sue Green (in place of Pauline Proud) and Leen Hampshire reached the quarter-finals of the over 50s Triples Competition, but losing to eventual winners, Cumbria, 18-19 on an extra end.
Leen Hampshire and Anne Bernard also reached the Ladies’ Pairs semi-finals, beating a pair from Acle, 22-11, then beat England players, Ruby Philpott and Chelsea Spencer, from Spalding, in an extra end 16-15. The Islanders then lost 15-20 to England internationalists, Sandy Hazell and Wendy King, who went on to win the event overall.
In the Ladies’ Four Bowl Singles, Anne Bernard lost in the quarter-finals 21-13.
