Across the Island, people are wearing yellow, baking yellow cakes, and hosting sunflower-themed events to raise funds and awareness for Mountbatten’s round-the-clock services for Islanders facing the end of life, and their loved ones. In homes and in the hospice, and through the John Cheverton Centre in Newport, Mountbatten supports thousands of Islanders every year so they do not have to face that final journey alone.
We’ve added the sunflower to our masthead this week – to remind you that whether you’re dressing in yellow, selling yellow flowers, or enjoying a yellow treat, every action helps shine a light on the importance of Mountbatten’s work.
Lots of schools, businesses and individuals are all taking part, and Islanders are encouraged to share their yellow moments online using the hashtag #GoYellow2025. You can find out details of where and how you can support the campaign via iw.observer/go-yellow. Or just pop into one of Mountbatten’s 11 shops, or their warehouse on Riverway in Newport, to pick up a bargain or donate something that you no longer use – that somebody else can put to good use. Or, if you want to do something more active, turn to page 9 to sign up to soar through the night sky and raise money for this great cause.
The campaign is part of Mountbatten’s October mission to “change the way Islanders live and die,” with schools, businesses, and individuals all joining in.
